M2. Think Before You Text

I don’t understand the need for people to text and drive. What makes it so important to use your phone behind the wheel? Not only are you putting yourself in danger but others as well. Why would you want to harm others by distractive driving? I honestly cannot stand when people text and drive. It annoys me extremely. I don’t see the point of someone needing to know news or information right at that moment. 77% of young adults think that they can safely text and drive. Right there proves that shows you about ¾ of America puts not only themselves but others in danger too. Honestly would you want to put your life at risk over some stupid text message that wouldn’t mean anything in the future? There are many dangers of distractive driving. There could be minor injuries or even death or also putting others in danger too. People may say that teen’s text and drive more than adults do but that’s not true. Adults and teens text and drive just about equally to each other. In 2011, approximately 23% of accidents involved cell phones. Texting and driving can lead up to a crash 23 times more likely than dialing, talking or listening, and just reaching for your device. 52% percent of Americans admitted they were using their cell phone while driving and 34% admitted to texting and driving. Teens might think it is alright about distractive driving because they see adults, like their parents. I think that we need to talk action and try to put a stop to distractive driving. Only 39 states including Washington D.C. prohibit texting and driving and only 10 states including Washington D.C. prohibit all drives from using their cell phone. That’s a problem half the country believe it’s alright to text and driver and put others at risk. Think before you text.
