My favorite time of the year is Thanksgiving to Christmas,
because I am always around my family almost every weekend it feels like. I
would have to say my favorite holiday is Christmas only because of all the
family activities. It’s a tradition that the girls in the family get together for
a weekend and usually make lots and lots of Christmas cookies. We usually make
peanut butter blossoms, snicker doodles, and sugar cookies with homemade
frosting. It usually takes all day because we make some for our family and then
for my sisters to take back home too. Also during Christmas time I always go to
my sister’s house to help put up and decorate their Christmas tree. That is
usually after thanksgiving dinner, at the parents’ house. Fast forwarding a 2
or 3 weeks past Thanksgiving is the time we put up our Christmas tree at home. We
tend to put the tree up in the same spot every winter; the corner in front of
our big window in the living room. We make sure we put tons of ornaments up especially
homemade ones from when we were kids, garland and last but not least then angel
that sits on the tip of the tree. Christmas Eve this year is going to be a
little different for our family. Since my grandmother lived in the nursing home
where my mom works the family would go there and celebrate Christmas with my
aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents, but since she unfortunately passed
away on Monday things are going to change. I have no idea what we are going to
do on Christmas Eve. Later that evening we go back to my sister’s house to do Christmas
with the siblings since we aren’t all together on Christmas morning. Since
there are so many kids in our family we do a secret Santa where we only have to
buy for one sibling. Christmas Eve at my sister’s house I would say is more fun
than actual Christmas Day. We have a family dinner, relax and have a nice
family bonding time. Finally the day everyone is waiting for, Christmas
morning, as much as my parents hate my brother, sister, and I for waking them
up early in the morning we still do it anyway! It’s just hard to resist the
urge of opening up the wrapped presents sitting underneath the beautiful green
tree. The presents are in all shapes and size; big, small, square, round, I mean
how could not want to know what it is? But in the end it’s not about the
presents underneath the tree, it’s about cherishing the time you spend with
your family and celebrating the true meaning of Christmas.
